Korner
by Pres. Ken Dell
I’m having writer's block while trying to write this
month’s article. Let me start by THANKING and offering
my CONGRATULATIONS to all the newly elected Officers and Board
Members. Thanks for offering your time and experience for
the betterment of our club and the community. We need and
appreciate everyone’s efforts and offer a sincere “atta'-boy”
to those who volunteer to take on a little extra responsibility
in the direction of our club and its actions in the community.
Please be sure to show your appreciation to Phil Pople, new
Vice President and new Directors, Larry Fellows, Jerry Jenkins
and Dave Maloney.
As
we approach the end of summer we are gearing up for a busy
fall & winter. Be sure to read the details on our picnic
elsewhere and reserve the date. Larry Fellows has graciously
offered us the use of his home for this years’ affair.
Be sure to come for the food, fellowship, fun & games!
Dave Maloney has started the Xmas Wrap signup sheet so don’t
forget to visit our website
to sign up (Downtown Club is already starting
to sign up.) If you don’t have a computer just let Dave
or Phil know so they can add your name. The Mount Basketball
season is fast approaching and we need to decide if we still
want to do this administrative account fund raiser. Please
give this some sincere thought. This can be a real boost to
our treasury but it will take a genuine commitment by as many
as possible to make it happen. The coming months are the time
of our major fund-raisers and your help is needed. I know
some of us have a difficult time being on our feet for very
long but you can still help out by sitting at a table taking
in money or giving out tickets. Think about it!
Lastly,
don’t forget membership. We need members! and we can’t
get any if you don’t ask. Have you asked anyone? Why
not? If we are to achieve an “Outstanding Club”
status we need two new members. While you may not agree with
everything we do or how we do it you still enjoy the comradeship
and helping our community. Why not share it with someone else?
We can do more in the community with more warm bodies, so
ask! GO GET ‘EM! |

Russ
Turney Memorial Scholarship Partnership Explored
Mary
Rolle, center, FCC Police Science Program Chair and Criminal
Justice Program Chair, explained the two programs to the club
as the club explores possibilities for the establishment of
the Russ Turney Memorial Scholarship. Left is club Pres. Ken
Dell. Right is Sandy Turney who said, "I was really impressed
with the programs as described by Mary, and as I stated at
the meeting, I think Russ would concur. I think both the criminal
justice studies and the police studies track are what you
had in mind when you conceptualized the fund. One thing about
the police studies program is that the police cadets who enroll
will be obligated to stay with their respective departments
for a certain length of time after completing their studies.
As Mary indicated, many departments foot the bill for their
cadets to take this additional training, but some departments
can not afford to do so. Funding this program will insure
that scholarship recipients will be applying their new-found
skills in the community.
I am sure that whatever you choose to do, you will have Russ
in mind. That's where the beauty lies. I appreciate the opportunity
his daughters and I had to be at the meeting. Thank you.
Sandy"
