Pres. Dave Maloney
Just a word of "Thanks" to Membership Chair Frank Parker who has been doing a yeoman's job in working to increase club membership. While our membership level has remained constant for a while, I am pleased to report that elsewhere in the Capital District some clubs are seeing growth. John Tyner, Capital District Growth Team Chair, recently reported "For the 6th month in a row, we've had a positive gain over the previous month, July being +41 over our June figures. We are now at 6,512, still -166 below our October 1st figure but moving in the right direction. And it is generally because of our 1's and 2's in most clubs. Our members, the heart of our clubs, are going out and recruiting their friends. That's why our clubs are growing by 1's and 2's - it's the drips that add up to the torrential stream!" John went on to say that say that with some new clubs coming online in the month of August could add a minimum of 50 new members to the roles.
I'll be heading to Dover, DE on Aug. 21th for the annual Capital District Convention. There's still time to register. Check out the DCON web site. This year's DCON speaker program is loaded with great topics. I will attend as many as I can. Below is a list of the topics being covered. See one that is really interesting to you? Let me know, and I will do my best to attend it and bring back information for you.
What a great time we had at last month's cook out. Thanks to Joe Vitanza for organizing the event and to Ellis for covering the rental charge of the AMVET's pavilion. Great side dishes and deserts complimented Stan Webester's roasted pig which we all enjoyed. Thanks to all those who came out to enjoy the afternoon. Here is a photo album of the event. Thanks to Paul for his photos!

Trashy Program
Recycling was the topic of the day at a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick. Annmarie Creamer, Recycling Outreach Program Coordinator for the Frederick County Office of Recycling, was both entertaining as well as informative as she described Frederick County government's strategy to reduce waste and manage resources wisely. "Did you know that recycling one aluminum can saves the same amount of energy needed to power a television for three hours?" she asked. Pictured here Annmarie shares more recycling tips with club member Larry Fellows.
