So,
I guess winter is really finally here in Frederick, MD although
it wasn’t very clear all month, especially when we
were having 60-70 degree weather in the middle of January!
It is time to crank up the heat and put another log on the
fire until we know what the groundhog in PA sees in a few
days!!
Last
month we had a great line-up of speakers! Just a quick
reminder that all members and chairpersons are encouraged
to keep supporting Dave with his Vice President role of scheduling
our weekly programs. Please check out the program schedule
online and let Dave know so he can update it. This is a team
(club) project and will take everyone help to be successful!!
 We
started off January 11th with a tag team of two of my favorite
organizations we support. Jim Fox (with member Ellis Stroup
in the left photo), VP of the American T Ball Association
and
Karl
Noah, Cub
Master
of
Pack
285 (at right with member Bill Muffi) came to speak
to us. Both shared with us what their worthy programs have
been doing and are planning in the near future. The club
appreciates all of their support and what they are doing
for the youth they work with. They also support our annual
gift-wrap project each year. Their (and the scouts and their
parents) contribution has proven to be invaluable to the
success of our fundraiser. Karl Noah also mentioned that
the Scouts have their annual Blue and Gold Ceremony coming
up on February 27, 2007. Our clubs members are invited to
attend, as we are their sponsoring organization. It is
usually a
great program and an honor for us to be there and share with
their accomplishments. I have seen our relationship with
both of these organizations grow over the past few years
and hope it continues for many years to come!! Contact Dave
Maloney if you can attend.
The
next week, on January 18th, Tom Slater (right) visited
us. He shared with us his analysis of local 2006 election
results
in
Frederick history. His predictions and analysis
were very informative to our club members.
On
January 25th, Robin Linton and her two daughters (Victoria
and Lindsey) spoke to us about their Heartbreakers Girl Fast
Pitch Softball League. They are pictured left being greated
by member Larry Fellows. They shared experiences with this
sport, the opportunities the league offers to the participants
and
how it challenges them to improve their skills and abilities.
Their presentation was interesting and informative. All three
of them also helped our with (and enjoyed) volunteering with
our gift-wrap this past December, so we as a club are very
appreciative of their time and generosity!
As
mentioned last month, our club celebrated our 35th Anniversary
on
January 6, 2007. We, as a club, will be celebrating this
event on February 10th. The event will be combined with our
traditional Christmas party this year. I
wanted to personally thank
the Downtown
Frederick
Club for chartering our club 35 years ago. Thanks to them,
both of our clubs have been able to be an integral part of
the Frederick community all these years. Our club for 35
and the Downtown club for almost 85 years. As the Chinese
proverb says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins
with a single step.” Thank you, from the bottom of
our hearts, Frederick club for choosing to take that step
35 years ago!! We have been doing lots of wonderful things
and trying new and sometimes
different things and are definitely making a difference in
many children’s and adults lives. As Harry Truman once
said. “ Imperfect
action is better than perfect inaction.” Or as Nike
has coined: ‘Just do it’.
I
believe the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, the Builders
Club
of Middletown Middle, the Key Clubs of Tuscarora and
Walkersville High, and the Circle K of Mount Saint Mary’s
University (our family) are awesome at everything they do
and to all they contribute to. Thanks to all the members
and all you to for our community and world!!! Let’s
keep up the great work for at least another 35 years!! |
