Korner by
Pres. Ken Dell
A Happy and Joyous New Year to all! I hope you had a good
holiday. One good thing for me , “ the WRAP is OVER”.
I want to thank all of you for your help. There are several
people who in my opinion went above and beyond the call of
duty. Larry Fellows was a real yeoman; it was rare to be there
and not see Larry wrapping. Phil Pople, our Fund-Raising Committee
Chair, set it all up, and Dave Maloney did an outstanding
job not only wrapping but in organizing the volunteers and
recruiting others to help. There were many others who put
in a lot of hours wrapping and assisting where needed but
I won’t name them for fear of leaving someone out. A
sincere THANK YOU to all. Also we thank Phil Pople for putting
the Fruit Sales together. This is no easy task, especially
when coordinating our sales into one order, receiving and
distribution of the fruit. Remember, the better we do with
our fundraisers the more money we’ll have to use in
serving our community. Please offer your support and patronage
in the rest of these events in the new year.
I cannot stress it enough, RECRUIT NEW MEMBERS. If you don’t
talk to your friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances, etc.
about the Kiwanis then our club does not grow and all the
good work we do in Frederick fades away. You don’t have
to ask them outright to join; just talk about the things you
and we do as an organization in casual conversation. Be enthusiastic
about it, tell them about the smile on the children’s
faces when we are able to give them a teddy bear or coloring
book at the hospital, or how they change after a few weeks
of therapeutic riding, or about the bicycle safety course,
or how we help with child safety seat inspection, or car seat
safety stickers, or Special Olympics, or the Cub Scout Troop
and Explorer Post we sponsor, or Circle K or Key Club, etc,
etc., etc. Maybe you’ll strike a chord in them so you
can just ask them to come to a meeting to see and hear about
us or a particular project firsthand. You can offer them a
free, no obligation meal to see what we are all about. You
are the “front line” so please go for it.
Enough of my ramblings. Again, for those of you who helped
in our latest fund raisers please accept our congratulations
and a well deserved pat on the back! ‘Till next time.

8th, 2005. It will be an open-bar, catered event. Leiters
will provide the catering. The menu:
Hors
d' Oeuvers (7:30 and last until 8:00): Assorted cheese tray
with assorted crackers and mustard for dipping, hot creamed

Dinner:
Dinner will begin at 8:00 and last approximately 1 to 1.5

with buttered noodles, tropical fruit, mixed baby greens salad
with choice of dressing, green beans in ham broth, whipped
garlic mashed potatoes, dinner rolls, and Texas sheet cake
for dessert.
Beverages:
There will be iced tea, coffee (regular and decaf), beer,
wine, and mixed drinks. There will be a bar tender to handle
the alcoholic beverages. This is an open bar event.
Due
to Dave's exceptional generosity and Leiter's providing us
a great price, the cost per person will be $17.50. At a recent
meeting the member's present were polled for attendance and
an initial count of 35 was taken. Please bring your payment
to our meeting on January 5, 2005. If you cannot make the
meeting to pay in advance, pay Leslie after the event as soon
as you can. I hope you all can attend. |
