Phil's Podium by Pres. Phil Pople

Happy New Year!!! Boy did the old year go out with a bang! We survived another fruit sale and gift wrap, and I might add another successful one at that. The raffle tickets sales seem to be going great, so all is well so far in this administrative year.

Many thanks need to go out. First to Dave for all the coordination with mall management and keeping the schedule up to date, making sure each slot was filled to fullest capacity. To Larry (I'll call him Radar from the show Mash) for another great year of choosing the paper and making sure we were well supplied throughout the wrap. We didn't run out of tissue paper until the last hour of Christmas Eve. I want to thank all those who covered Thursday evenings during normal meeting nights. Even though the Holiday Inn management got upset at our low turnout at our meetings, we needed those hours filled at the mall. I want to thank Bill and Joe for handling the raffle. Like I said, sales our brisk. We still have until the end of March to sell. We got 3000 of them so let's get rid as many of them as we can.

I especially want to thank all our wonderful volunteers. Every time I came to wrap the volunteers were there in force, even at closing time on Christmas Eve. Needless to say, we rely on them big time to get us through the wrap. Dave recently reported that of the 1285 hours worked at the wrap this year, 640 of those hours were provided by volunteers. By the way, we grossed almost $22,000 this year. I'm not sure what our net was, but I'm sure it's close to what we did last year. Treasurer Tracy Bemiller will be giving us a full report soon.

Now its time to gear up for the next big event and that is the silent/live auction. It's set right now for Sept 13th. In order for this to work, it will take all hands. Bill's got a plan of attack and he will be speaking about it in the next few weeks.

I've brought this up before, and I'll do it again, since Bud has been sick we need your help in lining up speakers. If your have anyone in mind e-mail Dave.

Don't forget the party Jan 12th. Hope to see everyone there. Thanks for all your hard work.

Volunteers Crucial to Successful Giftwrap

Fully one half of the 1285 man hours expended at our 2007 gift wrap fund raiser was provided by volunteers. From Key Clubs to walk-in volunteers, they filled openings in the schedule critical to our success. Shown right with a gift wrap customer are (left to right) Tuscarora High School student-helpers Kaleb Bordner, Andrew Taverner, Autumn Bordner, Steffi Yen, and Brittney Bryant. Other wrap photos are shown below. Click to enlarge.

Holiday Party Jan. 12th

This year's Holiday Party will be on Jan. 12th starting at 6pm with happy hour and with dinner beginning about 6.30 pm. Dress should be jackets for men with ties optional and nice attire for the ladies. (Actually, the ladies know what to wear and always look nice, but we have to tell the men what to wear so they look nice too.) "We will have a good time!" orders Sergeant-at-Arms Charlie Mertz. There will be a fun gift exchange, so bring a reasonably priced gift if you want to participate. Give Charlie Mertz a solid head count and payment of $14 per person by Jan 10th.

Sell Those Raffle Tickets by Bill Muffi

The Raffle Fund Raiser is in full throttle. We have passed the break even point so hear on out it profit. It's time to be creative because every dollar going forward goes to children's charities! Here are some ideas for moving tickets: small prize for the top producer; keep raffle tickets in the car because you never know when an opportunity will present itself. If you need more tickets they will be available each Thursday night from me or Joe. Hats off to Charlie Mertz who has set up a raffle station at his personal barber's shop. Hats off to Frank Parker, too, for ask for 25 more tickets for a special event. And to Phil, too, for requesting more tickets to sell at his place of business, too. Be sure to ask permission to sell at events such as Little League games, fairs, concerts, etc.
