Pres. Ken Dell
Here
it is July already! How time flies when you are swamped (having
fun?). One thing I have been remiss on is Club elections.
Please accept this as your written notice that the election
will take place on July 28, 2005 at our regular meeting. If
you would like to be on the Board or an Officer please contact
Phil Pople of our election committee. There is a great need
for "warm bodies" on our board. We need your help
to revitalize our club. Why not join the board where you can
not only express your opinion but can back it up with your
vote on how, what & where our club goes? The board meets
once a month after the first regular meeting of the month.
Please consider it.
This
brings me to an ongoing issue. People, we need new members!
As noted before, this can't happen until YOU ask someone to
a meeting, as our guest. Another issue, meeting attendance.
Where is everyone? We have 20+ members but seem to average
from 8 to 14 at a meeting. I realize that vacations may interfere
upon occasion but not week after week. I also realize that
programs have been cut back which may not make a meeting as
interesting as it could be. But by the same token, I’m
embarrassed to have someone come to talk to us and there are
only ten members present. Like the old movie, “you build
it and they will come”. We’ll have programs but
you have to show up to support them. Give it a try.
Also,
remember that starting this week, we will be back on Thurday
nights. Same time, same place, Holiday Inn on Baughmans Lane,
6:30 dinner. See you Thur. the 7th. |
Mary
Rolle, FCC, Speaker on July 21st -
Dave Maloney
Mary
Rolle will be our speaker July 21st. We have had her husband,
Scott, as a speaker in the past, but Mary will not be talking
politics. She will be explaining FCC's Police Science Program,
of which she is its coordinator. Our club is considering partnering
with FCC's Police Science Program to establish the Russ Turney
Memorial Scholarship. Please attend this important program.
I am very excited about the possibility of having a way to
memorialize Russ right here in our own back yard! Mark you
calendar now. - Dave |
New
Meeting Night and Welcome Back Carl -
Eric Gatrell, Membership Growth Chair
Remember,
folks, we will be meeting on Thursday nights from now on instead
of Wed. nights. Now, we know of a few of members who were
unable to attend our old Wednesday meetings. Well, we've solved
that problem for you. We are now back to THURSDAYs, same time
6:30pm. We need you. All of you. Welcome. Let's get cracking
and make Kiwanis fun.
Welcome
back to Carl Harbaugh, we missed him. He knew we were going
to have some problems with gift wrapping, and he decided he
needed to be here to help. Now, if that isn't what Kiwanis
is all about, I do not know what is. Hat's off to Carl. |
KI
Trustee Dana Cable Defeated for KI VP/Treas.
Though
talented, enthusiastic, charming and otherwise eminently qualified
to fill the seat of KI 2005-2006 Vice-President/Treasurer,
our own KI Trustee Dana Cable (right) failed in his bid to
attain the position during the annual KI Convention held in
Honolulu, HI July 2-4, 2005.
The results from the July 4 House of Delegates
Session at the 90th Kiwanis International Convention in Honolulu,
Hawaii, are in. Steve Siemens, from the Nebraska-Iowa District,
was elected president for the 2005-06 administrative year,
with the California-Nevada-Hawaii District’s Nelson
Tucker, serving as President-Elect. The Montana District’s
Dave Curry was elected Vice President-Treasurer, while the
new Trustees for 2005-06 are Thomas DeJulio (New York), Webster
James (Carolinas) and Sylvester Neal (Pacific Northwest )
from Region I, and Jorge Garcia Rivera (Andean and Central
America) from Region IV.
The Capital District and Dana’s Division
9 congratulate Dana and his campaign staff for their valiant
effort on a race well-run.
