Bill's
Corner by
Pres. Bill Muffi
What a great month we had in June. At our pig roast we honored Gov. Don Dudey by hosting his official visit to Div. 9. About 70 Kiwanians, family and friends were there, including Cub Scouts from Pack 285 who presented the colors to everyone's delight. Check out the photo album of the event.
And see the below articles regarding the induction of new member Aaron Valentino, our dontation to the Explorer Post we sponsor, and our recent speakers, Scott Coy from Home Deopt and Mid-East expert Linda Funsch.
It’s time to look ahead. At the next Board Meeting night I am asking all to attend. We will analyze were we are headed for the remainder of the year. Examples of topics to discsuss: Next Fund Raiser, Next Community Service Project, Next Membership Drive, and general discussion on upcoming elections. |
Home Depot's Scott Coy

At a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, Scott Coy, Home Depot Home Services Manager, provided hot tips to club members regarding tax credits available when purchasing certain energy-saving products such as roofing materials, replacement windows, household insulation and tankless hot water heaters. Pictured from left, club member Aaron Valentino presents a Kiwanis miniature bell as a thank-you gift to guest Scott Coy.

Club Donates to Frederick County Sheriff Department's Explorer Post

Representatives from the Frederick Sheriff's Explorer Post 1218 recently visited the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick to explain the Post's recent activities. The Explorer Program is designed for those young adults, both young men and women, interested in a law enforcement career. Young people interested in becoming Explorers, who meet the minimum qualifications, are exposed to various career opportunities, leadership experience, life skills, character education and learning how to serve. Pictured l. to r. club President Bill Muffi presents a $600 donation to Explorer Cpl. Zahra Ahmed as Post Advisor Lt. Gordon Geesey looks on. |
Islam the Topic of Meeting

At a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, Hood College Senior Lecturer and Middle East specialist, Prof. Linda Funsch, examined Western perceptions about Islam, the world's fastest-growing religion. Prof. Funsch focused on several of the most widely-held images and media-driven stereotypes about Muslims and their faith. Pictured from left, Kiwanian Frank Parker thanks Prof. Funsch as Parker's daughter-in-law, Ameena Shrestha, a former student of Prof. Funsch, looks on.
