Mick's Corner by Pres. Mick Hickman

Happy, belated 4th of July.  I trust you all had a good one got filled with lots of hot dogs, hamburgers with family, friends and fireworks.  When I think of July 4th, I don't think of picnics, etc. I think of the courage that had to be had through time by all the men and women of the armed services, and I silently say "Thank you" and a prayer for them.  For those in harm's way, I pray for them to come home safe and sound.

We need to thank those who are serving now when we see them during our everyday "excursions".  It's not hard to do.  I did it several times during the gift wrap and I could see by their faces and tell by their voices that they were grateful that someone recognized what they were doing.  Even today when I see a service member while I shop I will stop and thank them.  Please consider doing it, too.  We live in a very special country and should show our appreciation to those who help keep it this way.

As far a Kiwanis business, there doesn't seem to be much going on.  I could be wrong, and I'll check once The eChatter comes out and at the board meeting to make sure no project goes ignored in July.  I do know that our annual picnic will be held at Larry's place in West Virginia next month.  More info about where and how to get there will be coming.  Until tomorrow night, have a safe 4th of July, and see you at the meeting.

Thank You #1

Dear Kiwanis Club,

We wanted to thank you so much for the wonderful dinner and award ceremony for "the most improved student appreciation dinner" for middle school students.

The evening was just lovely, the food delicious, the warmth and genuine kindness to the students and their families was terrific! I think our son Billy Quinn left feeling proud of himself and all his hard work and grateful for being recognized and appreciated. He couldn't believe the generosity of the Kiwanis club with the plaque, potted plant and gift certificate.

It meant a lot to Billy to have his case manager Ashley Huffman there saying such nice things about Billy and really boosting his self esteem. He just adores her,

My husband used to be the president of the Jaycees in Mt. Airy several years ago and I had heard of the Kiwanis club at the time but was not familiar with your mission and goals. I was very impressed with the statements of your purpose and the wonderful community events your organization participates in. What a wonderful evening supporting the youth in our community.

My husband and I were genuinely impressed by your organization. Thank you for making our son feel so special and cared for. It meant a great deal to our family to be able to attend this special evening with Billy. Please share out thoughts and gratitude to other members of the Kiwanis club.

Thank You #2

Dear Scouts, A huge Cub Scout thank you for a job well done!  Thank you everyone for taking the time out of your Sunday to volunteer at Giant today. We had an awesome turnout and our hard work really showed. We ended up collecting 11 very full shopping carts of food.  A lot of people will have food to eat.  Please give your boys big pats on the backs for their hardwork!  The boys were awesome!   Hard work, good manners and teamwork were abdunant today :-).

And Dave, Thank you so much for helping our pack with the Convoy of Hope service project. It was so nice of you to help us and we enjoyed working with you.  I still can't believe that we collected so much food! It makes me so happy that so many people in need will be helped.  Have a wonderful start to your week.  Thank you again. Warmly, Monica

Dept on Aging

Frederick County Department of Aging's Community Services Manager, Kittly Devilbliss, recently visited the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick to explain to members the wide range of services available for supporting Frederick County seniors and their families. From caregiver support and guardianships to Meals-on-Wheels and nutrition services, members learned that seniors of Frederick County have a wealth of services available should the need arise. Pictured (L to R), club member Paul Sheets presents Devilbliss with a child's book. The book, part of the club's Read Around the World program, is to be donated to the C. Burr Artz Public Library in the name of Devilbliss and the department of Aging.

Goodwill's GoodGuides
