ARTHUR N. RILEY, LT. GOVERNOR
DIVISION 9, CAPITAL DISTRICT
KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL
250 UNIONTOWN ROAD
WESTMINSTER, MD. 21157
Dear Kiwanian:
Summer time starts a transition
time for Kiwanians between administrative years. It has been a pleasure to serve
as Lieutenant Governor for Division 9 during the 2003-04 year. It has gone by
quickly and the nine clubs of this division have contributed substantially to
their communities, the district and the world through Kiwanis International.
As this year enters its last quarter I would like to remind each club of the
following:
(1) It is important that each club is represented at the District Convention
to be held in Roanoke in August. I would encourage each club to make arrangements
now to have delegates present to elect the new district leadership and to vote
for the important issues involved in reshaping the Capital District.
(2) July and August are important months to recruit new members to be inducted
in September before this administrative year concludes.
(3) I will be mailing each of the club presidents a form to be used in having
your club and your administrative year be judged as a distinguished club. Consider
all your accomplishments and return the form to me no later than October 10,
2004.
For the incoming team, it
will be my honor to get to know each of you better. Please remember the following:
(1) CLE (Club Leadership Education) will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004.
We will be joining Division 12 in the program. We will be trying a slightly
different format and there will be programs for many different members of your
administrative team. Assemble your club officers and committee chairs and come
to the CLE for a morning of good fellowship. I also plan to have a time to train
the club officers in the goals and opportunities in Division Nine for the 2004-05
administrative year.
(2) I will be visiting each club between August 15 and September 30 to review
the goals for each club in the coming year. I look forward to this discussion
with each club.
(3) Installations are a busy time, if you desire for me to do your installation
please coordinate your schedule with mine. It is almost impossible to do all
of them in one week.
(4) The important events that you should keep in mind for the coming year include:
(a) Sponsored organization night. Early in the fall we hope to have an evening
dedicated to recognizing the sponsored programs in our division. Start spreading
the word to Key Club, Circle K, etc. as soon as they are back to school. We
hope to have a date to you soon.
(b) The Governor’s visit to honor Governor Warren Kane should be a fun
time. Governor Warren loves to meet Kiwanians and we hope to have a big turn
out. Again date to follow.
(c) Mid-Winter Conference in Williamsburg, Va. (last weekend in February.
(d) International Convention, Honolulu, Hawaii, July 2-6, 2005. We need a large
turn out to support Dana Cable in his bid for International Vice President/Treasurer.
Also a post convention visit to 3 islands for 9 nine days (details to follow
soon).
(e) District Convention to be hosted by Division 12 in Hunt Valley in august,
2005.
(5) As a club in the greatest service organization in the world, a dynamic club concentrates on their communities but also reaches out to the division, district and international. Please consider this as you design your program for the coming year.
As you can see there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Let’s all do our part for a successful year. I look forward to serving with you during the coming year to serve the children of our communities and the world.
Yours in Kiwanis,
Arthur Riley,
Lt. Governor
2003-2005
