Mick's Corner by Pres. Mick Hickman
Summer is here. You know how I know? It's the Division 9 Pig Roast this coming Saturday, June 11 1 - 3. It's such a wonderful event to mingle with the other clubs. I'm sorry I won't be there. I've had a trip scheduled at least 4 months ago and it just so happens to be the same weekend. Go figure. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be in good hands with Eric at the helm representing our club and for our board meeting.
I'm still wanting to hear some ideas for different projects for us to attack. So far, only 1 person has responded. We need to have a project, I feel, every month even if it's just a small one. We've got to get our club name out there and need to be known for more than "Oh, you're the people that wrap gifts at the mall." A project a month doesn't let boredom set in either. When people get bored, they tend to drift away. Well, at least you have another month to think about it. I will be asking at the July board meeting.
But, back to the pig roast. Please have a great time and enjoy the meal. More importantly, enjoy the fellowship of the other clubs. I'm sure Lt. Gov. Renee will have some words of wisdom or some info to pass on to you about the division and probably about the convention coming up in August. Have a great time!
A special thanks to Peter for organizing and running such a great Middle School Most-Improved Student Awards Night and to Christine for the great job she did coordinating the recent K-family Night!

Wags for Hope

Officers from Wags for Hope, a non-profit organization that provides volunteers and their pets to bring joy to the lives of others, recently visited the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick to explain the service they provide our community. Wags for Hope teams of pets and their owners visit nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, Hospice and local libraries to help improve childrens' literacy skills. (Left to Right) Club members Larry Fellows and Terry Proescholdt learn more about Wags for Hope from President Meg Klackner and V.P. Cecelia Kirchman. |
Suburban Frederick K-Family Night
Christine Semon did a fantastic job of organizing our Club's annual K-Family Night.

Members of our SLP (Service Leadership Program) clubs at Middletown Middle School, Walkersville High School, and Tuscarora High School joined our club for dinner and explained this past years activities and next year's goals. Christine presented each club with a $200 grant from our club.

Cubs Collect Food
Dave Maloney spent the afternoon this past Sunday with our club's Cub Pack 285 in front of Kingsbrook Giant soliciting donations of non-perishable food, paper goods and toiletries which are to be given away to the needy of Frederick County. Shoppers were very generous: the items collected filled eleven grocery carts to overflowing!
