Grandson Born
Dave & Barb
Maloney proudly announce the birth of their
grandson, Evan David Giampapa. Evan and
mother Julianne are doing fine. Many who
have seen young Evan note how ruggedly
handsome he is — a trait inherited
from his grandfather (and your most humble
Editor) most intelligent people agree.

Jerry's
Words of Wisdom by
Pres. Jerry Jenkins
March, March, March. The troops are marching.
Congrats to one and all for a very productive 5
months. We have successfully completed the gift
wrap, the Basketball games at Mount St Mary's and
the Thank-You dinner for our gift wrap volunteers.
I
would like to add my plea to that of Clyde for
drivers on the wheelchair van. Stop and think for
a minute. With 33 members you would think that
almost all of us could spare 4 hours on a weekday
or ½ a day on Saturday or Sunday. That means
once a month, guys, instead of leaving it on the
shoulders of 6 members including those that are
on vacation or sick. In addition, you are only
on-call. In the month of December we only had one
call on a weekend. Seldom do we have a call at
night but we do have the obligation to cover. This
service project has gotten this club more publicity
than any project we have ever undertaken and only
seven out of 33 have participated. Think about
it and do your fair share.
Lt. Governor Art Riley has requested that we take
on a new Children Priority One project of our choosing.
Nothing large, just new. This is something he is
asking all clubs to do. I'm sure we can think of
something. Give your ideas to Ed Crawford and let's
see what we can come up with. I'm sure we could
take some money from our Admin. fund for a small
project.
Are
you ready to entertain again? Christine, Mark
and Jim have suggested a "Dinner with sponsored
Youth Groups". This has been set for St. Patrick
Day (Jim's suggestion as he is Irish) the 17th
of March. I would like to also make this a significant-other
night. The more we can present ourselves as a family
the better representative we can be of the family.
We have taken these kids under our wing, so let's
show them what Family is all about.
For
those of you who don't know, I have asked Ed
Crawford to be our Official Historian and he
has graciously volunteered. Many thanks, Ed. You
did a great job on the book. The "Book" is
available to be checked out by any member. Learn
about your club and the wonderful people who have
made it the best service club in Division 9.
I have also asked Charlie Mertz, Eric Gatrell
and Glen Magaha to form a committee to help and
educate incoming Presidents in the ways of our
club. They are all charter members and past Presidents
with a wonderful knowledge of how to preside at
a club meeting. They will bring continuity to the
office and a deeper knowledge of Suburban Frederick
Kiwanis.
It
seems we still owe Carmi a vote of thanks. He
didn't just throw the job in Leslie's lap. I
saw he was one of the last ones to leave last Wednesday
because he was helping Leslie. Many Thanks Carmi.
You can be an old curmudgeon at times, but we love
you anyway. (Right. Beauty and the Beast. New Club
Treasurer, Leslie Davidson, learns the ropes
from outgoing
Treasurer,
Carmi Sayler.)
My very best to all of you,
Jerry

Thirty-Two
Years and Counting
Charter
Member and Past-President Ed Crawford took
on the daunting task of compiling the history
of Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick from
the club's inception in 1972 to present.
Above,
Ed presents his finished product to a club
meeting. (Center, Pres. Jerry Jenkins (l)
thanks Ed for his efforts.) "Feeling
a sense of urgency, I decided to undertake
this project because I was afraid that
a portion of our club history would soon
be forgotten," Ed said. "With
that in mind, and with Ed Blumenauer's
assistance, I gathered a copy of every
Chatter ever published. I gleaned important
information from those Chatters and club
records to compile the club history."
Included
in the club history are memoriams, sponsored
youth programs, original documents dating
back to 1971, club newsletters, highlights,
organizations benefiting from club contributions,
lists of past-presidents, Foundation Life
Members, and past Lt. Governors, and much,
much more.
Noting
that the task will never be finished, Ed
went on to say that he will continue to
add new information. Assisted by member
Patrick Haley, Ed has even published the
work on CDROM in addition to the print
version.
For
his efforts, Club Pres. Jerry Jenkins recently
appointed Ed Club Historian. Privileges
too numerous to mention accompany this
exalted position. Congratulations, Ed!
And Thanks! |

Flash: Mount Circle K Elects New
Officers
In
club elections held Thursday night, February
19, our Circle K Club elected its new
board of officers. Congratulations to
President Kelly Barrett (class of 2007),
Vice President Shannon Gibbons (class
of 2006), Secretary Amy Reightler (class
of 2007), and Treasurer Ryan Cleary (class
of 2006). The new offices will begin
their term in April.
Story:
Mount Circle K Club Is Looking for
Talent in Our Kiwanis Club
Talent?
In our club? Heck, we ooze talent. Kiwanians,
please note. The Mount’s Circle
K Club is planning another appreciation
dinner for us. Remember our last get
together? In the Commons Room of the
Mount’s Seminary? Spaghetti and
all the customary extras? Mark your calendars
for a day that is still tentative as
we go to press—Sunday, April 4,
at about 5 PM.
Sounds
great! Now, about the "talent" part
of the equation. The Circle K Club wants
to make the evening’s entertainment
a joint, CKC-SFK talent show. Do you
play an instrument? Know any card tricks?
Ever make a bunny disappear (or disappear
with one)? The girls and guys of Circle
K have as much as challenged us! So if
you have a talent to display, present,
demonstrate, or otherwise show off, let
Jim Krysiek know asap. Otherwise Jim
just might have to dance around like
Tom Jones and sing (?) his "Ginette" song
in English!
