Phil's Podium by Pres. Phil Pople

Well folks its March and Spring is in the air. You know what else I smell? Raffle tickets and lots of them. At last count we still have about 2500 of them to sell. We need your help selling them this weekend at the Giant out on Route 26. Any kind of time you can give would be appreciated. Dave is coming up with his award winning schedule grid to make things easier. So please help us out. We would like to sell as many as possible before the drawing on March 27th.

What makes the job of President so easy is when the people under him/her is buying into what the President is trying to sell. I'm so lucky to have so many good people in this club willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. Whenever I've asked for help I've always found someone willing to step up to the plate. As your President I can't as for anything more, and I want to thank you all. I'd give you all a big smooch but Cindy would kill me.

Please keep in mind our two big nights coming up. June 12th at the Keys and Sept 13th silent/live auction at Holiday Inn. Please reserve those 2 dates as they both our all-hands-on-deck evolutions. And please don't forget that we have middle school appreciation night (May 8th) along with Youth Night coming up (April 17th). I would hope we have great attendance for both those functions.

Thanks to all again and lets have a wonderful March. Now let's have a wonderful March

A Special Olympics of Frederick County (SOFC) athlete and volunteers were guests at a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick. The SOFC provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for people with intellectual disabilities. The Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick presented the SOFC with a $400 donation. Pictured from left to right are volunteers Rachel Fello and Megan Shaffer, athlete Richie Jones, and Kiwanian Christine Semon.

Former Frederic City Alderman, Bill Hall, entertained club members during a recent visit with stories of growing up in Frederick, his jobs in the Air Force and as a forman at Alcoa, and service to Frederick City as an elected official. Pictured, club members Mick Hickman (l) and Bud Jackson (r) present Bill with a miniature Kiwanis bell as a token of our appreciation for him having spent time with our club.

Debra Spurrier, spokesperson for the Pork Industry, shares a "The Other White Meat" brochure with club members Joe Vitanza and Bill Muffi during a recent club visit at which she described today's high-tech methods used to raised pork for national and international consumption. Western MD including Frederick County plays an important part by growing soy beans and corn used as feed in the pork industry.

At a recent Cub Pack 285 annual Blue and Gold banquet, members Dave Maloney, Christine Semon and Phil were honored guests representing the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick who are the Sponsoring Organization for the Pack. During the banquet, several Webelos Cub Scouts were presented their Arrow of Light award - the only patch from Cub Scouts that they can wear as they advance into Boy Scouts. Pictures here, club Pres. Phil Pople joins this photo op to congratulate the young Cub Scouts for their accomplishment.
