Bill's Corner by Pres. Bill Muffi

Through tough weather and the ups and downs of everyday life we have been blessed with the finest group of members. I’m glad to serve with all of you. Thank you each and every one.

Here are this past months highlights:

  • We voted in two new members this month: Peter Brehm and Robert Wilson. Our membership chair Frank Parker is working out the details for a double induction night in March!
  • Paul Hinch, Cubmaster at Pack 285 of which we are Chartering Organization, is getting our club more involved with the Pack, and vice versa. Hat’s off to Paul.
  • We gave donations to our Key Club for the people of Haiti.
  • We scheduled our next fundraiser (to be held in conjunction with the Mt. Airy Club from mid-March through June 12th). Fundraising chair, Joe Vitanza, reports that prizes will include electronics gadgets including a 47" flat screen TV.
  • We scheduled our next Community Service Project which will be a work morning at Hope Alive in Emmitsburg on April 10th.
  • We scheduled our next Membership event which will be another "Bring a Friend" night on March 30th.
  • Speaker of this past month was Rotarian Dan Oaks who informed us about the Major General Boyd Cook Veterans Memorial Foundation and its work with the Maryland National Guard Jobs Program. A professional photographer, Dan even distributed photos of downtown Frederick taken during our recent blizzard. Nice souvenir of Dan's visit and of the blizzard! Thanks, Dan!

Let us all pray for our members struggling with health issues.

Once again, I would like to thank this group of Champion’s for their Hard Work and what they give to the Children of our County.

Now let’s work on……

Major General Boyd Cook Veterans Memorial Foundation

At a recent meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick, Dan Oaks explained the goals of the Major General Boyd Cook Veterans Memorial Foundation and its work with the Maryland National Guard Jobs Program. "The Foundation goal is to assist U.S. veterans in need." said Oaks. Examples of include paying for major un-foreseen car repairs, funding a wounded soldier in a Texas burn center to come home for the holidays, fixing blown down gutters, arranging for no-cost child care and paying for a funeral of a deployed guardsman’s mother who passed away with no insurance. The Foundation also works in conjunction with the Maryland National Guard to help secure jobs for returning veterans. Pictured (L to R) Dan Oaks shares a Foundation flowchart with club President, Bill Muffi.

Club Supports Cub Pack 285

The Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick is proud to be the Chartering Organization for Cub Scout Pack 285, which meets at Tuscarora Elementary School in Frederick, said Kiwanis Club President Bill Muffi. "Cub Scouts teaches team work, leadership skills as well as community service - traits embraced by Kiwanis," he continued. During a recent club meeting, the Kiwanis club presented a check for $500 to Pack 285 in support of their operations. Pictured (L to R): Club Pres. Bill Muffi, Cub Scouts Alex Durnal and PJ Hinch, adult leader Amy Durnal, and Cubmaster Paul Hinch.
