Ken's Korner by Pres. Ken Dell

They say Spring weather is here but you couldn’t convince us parents who have watched our sons/grandsons play baseball and soccer on the last two Sundays while shivering under grey WIND swept skis, even snow on 4/24. Spring must be getting close though since the “Snowbirds” both form our Club and Therapeutic Riding are slowly coming back to the nest. Welcome Home!

We have a very interesting month in May. We will celebrate some of the children we sponsor here at our meeting on May 11th. Christine is expecting about 100 people at this Middle School Student Appreciation Night. Please plan to attend so we can support and congratulate these kids on the super job that they are doing. Also coming is the first official joint meeting of the merge committees from the Downtown and Suburban Clubs. This is set to take place after our 5/4 Board meeting at the Holiday Inn. Please make an effort to attend the meeting that night so we can show our strength. (You don’t have to stay for the Board Mtg.)

We have talked about membership and the work of our Club on several occasions. It’s time for action. Bring a potential person member to a meeting and let them see firsthand what we do. Tell them no commitment is necessary, just come and enjoy a free dinner and see and hear what Kiwanis is about. Also, show up for a project to work. Remember, there are things needed that you can do for an hour that involve nothing more than sitting at a table taking tickets or whatever. BECOME INVOLVED! Till next time, be well.

Junior Member Helen Maloney Honored

The Elks recently presented Helen Maloney with the Most Valuable Student award for her hours of volunteerism and various other school-related activities. She was selected for this honor by the teachers of Crestwood Middle School and was joined at the ceremony by school Principal Mrs.Hartstock (in the red suite.)

Middle School Most Improved Student Program May 11

"This annual event is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated program of our administrative year," said Committee Chair Christine Semon of the Suburban Frederick's annual Frederick County Most Improved Middle Student Award night. "This award does not emphasize academics, but rather that Middle School students whom the teaching staff feel improved the most be it in cooperation, peer relations, or attitude. The stories you hear will probably bring tears to your eyes. They do mine." Christine continued. (pictured are the 2004 award recipients.)

2006 Rome KI Convention to be Relocated

A memorandum has been received from President Case Van Kleef, President-Elect Steve Siemens, and Executive Director Eyjólfur "Eddie" Sigurðsson, regarding the Kiwanis International Board's decision to relocate the 2006 convention.
