The Rev.
David C. Dawson, 80, of Frederick, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Homewood at
Crumland Farms Nursing Center, Frederick.
He was
the husband of 53 years to beloved wife Patricia A. Dodson Dawson.
Born November 3, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the
son of the late Rev. Jesse P. and Blanche Armstrong Dawson.
Rev. Dawson served in the U.S. Army as a Pfc. in
the Pacific-Asian Theater during World War II and received an Expert Infantryman
Badge. He graduated with a Master’s of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary
in 1961. He served 16 churches in both the Virginia and Baltimore-Washington
Conferences of the United Methodist Church, retiring in 1989 after serving the
congregation of Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church for 18 years.
Following his retirement, Rev. and Mrs. Dawson became associate members at
Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville.
Rev. Dawson served as chaplain for the Junior
Fire Department, Frederick, and Colombia Lodge #58 AF&A Masons. His
affiliations also included, but were not limited to, Lambda Phi Delta at
Lycoming College, which he was a founding father and later became a member of
the national fraternity when the local fraternity became a chapter of Lambda Chi
Alpha; a member of both the Lions Club and Kiwanis; as well as a charter member
of the Solomons Island Volunteer Fire Co.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, David
P. Dawson and wife Joy of Jefferson and Jonathon E. Dawson and wife Catherine of
Frederick; four grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Jenna and Bradlee Dawson; sister,
Marian Hall of Severna Park; brother, the Rev. Paul Dawson and wife Marilyn of
Falmouth, Mass.; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Dodson of Lusby. Many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Rev. Dawson is at the Robert E. Dailey and Son
Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market St., Frederick. There will be no calling
or visiting at the funeral home.
A memorial
service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Centennial Memorial United
Methodist Church, 8 West Second St., Frederick, with the Rev. Dr. George Earle
Jr. officiating.
Inurnment will be private and
at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centennial Memorial United
Methodist Church; Second Street and Hope Inc.; or the Heifer Project of
Grossnickle Church of the Brethren.
