Well,
my dear Kiwanis Club, May is finally here, along with lots
of beautiful flowers!! Enjoy the wonderful weather, while
it lasts, before summer gets here, officially!!
We
had a great month in April! On the 12th, Melissa Main,
from the Believers Club visited our club to share about
the
wonderful things they do in arranging for and helping to
pay for trips to Disney World in Orlando, FL for children
and families with children having special needs. Unfortunately,
I was
not able
to be at
the meeting, as I was hanging out in Richmond, VA with
the Key Club Executive Board. We were preparing for about
750
Key Clubbers to arrive on Friday and take over the Richmond
Marriott for the weekend! They had a slogan of “Ahoy
to Service” and the theme of pirates for the weekend.
The workshops were very informative, the talent performances
were wonderful, and the props and stage designs of 2 huge
ships (16’ x 8’) were amazing! I know that
the new executive board that was elected that weekend will
do
a fabulous job this coming year. I know that not much sleep
was obtained by me or the rest of the adult board and I
believe that a great time was had by all Key Club members
and advisors!
On
April 19th, Shaun Butcher visited with us to share about
a great upcoming public art project the Frederick Arts
Council is working on — Keys to Frederick. Similar to what
the
Arts Councils did for artist
and
sponsors in Baltimore and Washington with crabs and
pandas
respectively, Frederick will he installing some very large
artist-decorated Keys.
It sounds like it will be a great project for our city!
On
the 26th of April we had a split meeting, of sorts. Several
members went to the Holiday Inn for a round
table meeting and
other members went to Beaver Creek Country Club
in Hagerstown for Governor Bob Cressy’s (right) official
visit for Division 9. All eight clubs in our division attended
the
event that was sponsored
by the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club. It was very nice
with good fellowship and food! Also, our club had a special
part in
the program also. We had asked Governor Bob to
induct our clubs newest member, Tracy Bemiller, during
the
evening, which he agreed to do! Also, Tracy and Rob Summers,
his
sponsor,
made LTG Fred Lohnes monthly newsletter! Make sure
you check it out for a nice summary of the Governors
visit and for
upcoming divisional events!
During
the month of April, The Kiwanis Club of Suburban
Frederick gained one new member and unfortunately
lost three of our K-family
members. We are very happy and excited that Terry
Bemiller has joined our club family! We are also saddened
that
Ed Blumenaeur, one of our club's charter members,
past-member Rev. Dave Dawson, and Wynne Roney, the wife
of past member Clyde Roney, have left us
this month.
We will keep the friends and families of Ed, Rev.
Dave, and Wynne in our thoughts and prayers. As said
in Psalm 4:8,
NIV: “I
will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone,
O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Dear
Kiwanis Club, let's please recall what Carl Jung once said
as we move
into the month of May and a great
schedule of programs and activities. “Your vision
becomes clear when you look in side your heart. Who looks
outside, dreams.
Who looks inside, awakens.” Lets continue
to follow our passions and keep the up the positive
attitudes we
so wonderfully show and express at our meetings
and
in our communities!
Keep discovering your gifts and find out what moves
you in your life and continue to follow those passions
to
support
the children, youth and others in our community!!!
Have a great month!

Mount St. Mary's Circle K Garners Award Jenna,
Colleen, and I went to the SGA/SLAC Awards Banquet tonight
and were awarded the Outstanding Club Award for
Circle K.
We were nominated by Dr. Miller who was so appreciative of
everything Circle K does, especially Kids Club. He presented
us with our award that says:
When a team of dedicated individuals makes a commitment to
act as one...the sky's the limit.
Circle K
Outstanding Student Org 06-07
Congratulations and Thank You
for all the help this past year!!!! Good luck with finals and have a great
summer!! —
Kelly, Past President
Congratulations to All of You in MSM Circle K Club!
To win the Mount's Outstanding Club Award for 2006-2007 is
an honor that you all deserve. As your adviser who sees you
organize the things that you undertake at your weekly meetings,
I know how dedicated you are to the projects and activities
that make a difference on campus and in the larger community.
I have always said that Circle K is the best service organization
on campus. Now others will know that your and your club are
truly outstanding.
Special congratulations to Kelly, Jenna, Laura, and Colleen!
As officers of the club for the past three years, you have
provided exemplary leadership. You guided the club as members
worked together towards this recognition.
On behalf of Circle K and its sponsoring club, The Kiwanis
Club of Suburban Frederick, thank you, Dr. Mike Miller, for
your nomination. It is fantastic to be recognized by SGA/SLAC
in this way.

A Message from our Mt. St. Mary's Circle K Club
Hello!
We are the new club officers at Mount St. Mary’s
University Circle K (shown right with advisor, Dr. Jim Krysiek
are Rickeena Free, Pres.,
Michelle Chite, VP,
Stephanie Kreiner, Sec., Christina D’Agostino, Treas.) We
began
our
roles on April 1st and
have already done a
few
activities
since
then which
we would
like to share with you. We held a bingo with the nuns and
a kids club the past two weekends. We play bingo with retired
nuns a few minutes from our college every few weeks. They
love our company (and prizes!) and we enjoy spending time
with them too. We also hosted a kids club, a day for professor’s
children to do arts and crafts, play games, and read books.
Our theme was “summer” since we will be out for
the summer soon! We also cleaned the Grotto on our campus
last weekend. Another activity that we began is sending letters
to the soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital after hearing the
moving talk that Cindy McGrew gave at the Kiwanis dinner
that we attended for our induction.
We have
many new plans for next year, some of which are cleaning
up the Grotto again, visiting Walter Reed Hospital,
visiting the nuns at St. Joseph’s Provincial House,
and working at a nearby soup kitchen.
We said goodbye to our former officers, Kelly, Jenna, Laura,
and Colleen, this past meeting, who are all graduating seniors.
They will be very missed and have done great things for our
club. We hope to follow in their footsteps and have a great
club next year too, with the help of our advisor James Krysiek!
We had an awesome time at the District Convention for Circle
K International this year and want to thank all the Kiwanians
who so generously helped us out financially. We received
a lot of helpful information from the weekend and plan on
using it to better our club next year. We look forward to
coming to more Kiwanis dinners next fall! Thank you for all
your support.

Club
Website Garners Prestigious Award
Club
members were unanimous in their agreement recently that the Website of
the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick did, indeed, truly
deserve the coveted Capital District Web Site Award (right)
which was presented during the 2007 Mason Dixon Regional
Mid-Winter Conference
held in Columbia, MD this past month. Yer' 'umble Webmaster,
Dave Maloney, graciously and 'umbly accepted the award from Pres.
Christine. Dave noted that while ten such awards were presented,
he had no doubt that, if placed in order of perfection, the
Website of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick would, no doubt,
be at the top of the list. Dave most 'umbly sensed a general
agreement among the membership. |
