Bill's
Presidential Post by
Pres. Bill Muffi
What a busy first month. Here is October at a glance:
- We finalized and approved our club budget for the 2009-2010 year.
- To benefit new members, we approved a motion to eliminate the new-member ad fee and as well as a motion to pro-rate dues for new members.
- A special tribute to Charlie Mertz and Ellis Stroup for over their many decades of service to Kiwanis, plus for their military service to our Country.
- Brenda made a knock-out "Earthquake" cake for Phil's birthday.
- And Ruth Vickers was our speaker of the month. Go Frederick County Special Olympics!
It’s now time to focus on last minute Fruit sales - there's even a link on our web site where your family and friends can order online. And don't forget about the Christmas Wrap sign up list which is now posted on our club web site, too.
Remember, keep your eye peeled for that future member of Kiwanis who will make a difference. It’s all about the Children! |

Save Pink Yogurt Lids to Save Lives
Mick reminds us that Yoplait continues to run its annual drive to benefit breast cancer research. For every pink lid turned in, Yoplait donates 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Just wash and send in your lids to P.O. Box 420704, El Paso, TX 88542-0704 by December 31, 2009.

Club Donates $500 to Special Olympics
Ruth Vickers recently updated our club on Special Olympics—its history, organization and events. Pictured below VP Eric Gatrell presenting Ruth with a check for $500 in support of Frederick County Special Olympics as club Pres. Bill Muffi looks on.

Who Drinks the Nastiest Water?
Members enjoyed a recent presentation by Bill Hatcher of H & H Water Conditioning. After explaining the modern processes of cleaning water, Bill tested samples of drinking water brought in by several club members. The samples were tested for dissolved solvents - mostly limestone - with perfect water being between 0 and 15, Bill said. Who brought in the nastiest water?? Even nastier than water Bill had washed his hands in after rubbing the bottom of his shoes?? Sorry, can't tell whose water tested worst, but I can tell you whose was the best - Dave Maloney brought in a sample of Home Depot taken from his water cooler at home. The dissolved solids count was only 15 - near perfect!! Pictured below left, Bill Hatcher tests water samples. Below right, Eric Gatrell, program chairman, examines nasty dissolved solids in the bottom of a test tube held by Bill Hatcher as H & H Pres. Robby Hill looks on.
