First
of all, WELCOME! to our newest member, Brenda Edwards,
who is sponsored by our Treasurer, Debbi Matthews! It is great
having you as a new member, Brenda. And I understand you
will be next year's Interclub Chairperson. It's great that
you are getting so involved so soon.
As you
all are well aware of this administrative year is coming
to a close and its time for the Presidents state of the
club speech.
To be perfectly honest it hasn't been the smoothest year
a president could have. First we lost truly a great Kiwanian
in Glen. He was what Kiwanis is all about, and he will
be sorely missed. Then we've seem to have lost contact
with
other members for various reasons. Some might come back,
others I'm not quite sure about. For that I blame myself.
Maybe it was the way I ran the meetings, or it was because
politics played a part, or they just got bored. Whatever
the reason, it is the President's job to make sure everyone
stays involved, to let them know they all play a vital
role in the success of our club. The President can only
be as
strong as the people below him/her. And in no way shape
or form should politics play any kind of role in a civic
organization
like ours.
This year did have some great highlights though. We had
another successful fruit sale. Our Gift wrap was another
great success
to go along with the raffle that we held. Our 2 days as
it turned out at the Keys game gave us great exposure,
and keep
our fingers crossed, our auction will be a great success.
There are so many people to thank, and I want to do it
in no particular order. First Dave with all his award winning
Chatters and E-builders and helping lining up great speakers
and all those award winning pictures that made the Post.
Thanks, Dave, for all you do. For Bill and Joe for running
the raffle during Xmas and for all the work your doing
in
putting the Live/Silent auction together. And for Dave
for storing all the goodies we have collected. I want to
thank
Bill also for stepping up and volunteering to run the chairs.
As it turned out he got to skip a spot and is going to
be your President-elect next year.
I
want to thank Christine for all the work she continues
to do with the Key and builders clubs. We are so lucky
to
have her in our club. Ed Crawford for all the work he continues
to do with sponsored youth. It will be hard to replace him
as committee chair with all he has done over the years..
Charlie of course handling the meal money and keeping everybody
in line during our meetings. Thanks Charlie.
For Terry for keeping me in line during board meetings so
I don't make a total fool out of myself. And for Debbie for
taking over in a pinch as our treasurer. Not an easy task,
and we all appreciate her doing it. Thanks to Mick for the
weekly invocation, she has done a masterful job and should
be given a hand. Thanks soooo much Mick. And to Larry for
another outstanding year of picking out and delivering the
gift wrap paper and all the supplies during the gift wrap.
And thanks so much Larry for storing all that stuff for us.
Its been a huge help over the years. And to Frank for the
great job he did this year in membership growth. Even though
we didn't get the plus five that I was looking for, he laid
out the groundwork to help us succeed. That committee folks
is by far the one we need to pay the most attention to in
the coming years to build our strength back up. Jim, another
outstanding job in doing interclubs. I would hope we still
lead our division in that
department.
I've
heard through the grapevine that I'm long winded. So I'll
cut this short. Thanks again. We truly have a great
club, one we should all be proud of. Lets keep that tradition
up by helping Dave out any way we can. |
Welcome
New Member Brenda Edwards!
 As
Pres. Phil performed the induction ceremony, Frank Parker
lit the
6-objects-of-Kiwanis candles while sponsor, Debbi Matthews,
pinned the K pin on our newest member, Brenda Edwards.
Brenda was raised in Memphis, TN. She has lived in Frederick
for the last 31 yrs. and has one daughter. She works
for BB&T Bank, and her hobbies are sewing, reading
and cooking. (Upper left Brenda and Debbi look on as Frank
lights the K Kandles. Upper right, Debbi (right) attaches the
new-member K pin to Brenda's lapel.)

Maryland National Golf Club
Sherree
Lance, Marketing Director at Maryland National Golf Club, described
her club's facilities and encouraged members
to visit for golf or just a great meal in a fine setting. Maryland
National Golf Club was kind enough to donate a foursome
round of golf for our club's upcoming (Sept. 13th) silent/live
auction fundraiser. Pictured right Sherree shares Maryland
National Golf Club information with Bill Muffi.
