Giftwrap.
One of our largest annual fundraising events is the Christmas
Gift Wrap held at the Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick, MD.
Through the generous contributions of our customers, we are
able to support many needy groups. |
|
Fruit
Sales. Selling tasty fruit in time for the Holiday
season is a popular fund raiser. |
|
Shrimp
& Oyster Feed. We jointly hold an annual Shrimp
and Oyster Feed with the Kiwanis Club of Frederick, a lunch-time
club. |
|
Young
Children Priority One. The major continuing service
emphasis of Kiwanis International is known as Young Children: Priority
One. The program encompasses projects focusing
on the special needs of children from prenatal development through
age five. Our club is involved in several service projects,
described in more detail below, directed at the needs of children. |
 |
Circle
K International
is a Kiwanis organization devoted to involving college and university
students in campus and community service while developing quality
leaders and citizens. Emphasis is placed on service, leadership,
career development, and fellowship. Circle K members are inspired
to better the world through numerous projects on campus, in
the community, and on a global scale. We sponsor Circle K Club
at Mount Saint Mary's University. |

Builders
Club
is open to any middle school student who wants to join. Each
club and school principal has the latitude to set conditions
for membership, so it varies from club to club. Generally, any
student who is interested in performing community service may
join Builders Club. Not all middle schools have a Builders Club,
though. Each Builders Club is co-sponsored by a Kiwanis club
and the middle school. Our Club sponsors a Builders Club at
Middletown Middle School. |

Iodine
Deficiency Disorders.
Our club has raised thousands of dollars to help eliminate Iodine
Deficiency Disorders (IDD), the world's leading cause of preventable
mental retardation. The Worldwide Service Project
is a joint effort between Kiwanis International, Morton
International, and UNICEF. Just
a spoonful of iodine over a lifetime gives protection from IDD,
and it costs only five cents per child. |

Middle
School Most Improved Student Recognition. "This
annual event is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated program
of our administrative year," said Committee Chair Christine
Semon of the Suburban Frederick's annual Frederick County Most
Improved Middle Student Award night. "This award does not
emphasize academics, but rather that Middle School students
whom the teaching staff feel improved the most be it in cooperation,
peer relations, or attitude. The stories you hear will probably
bring tears to your eyes. They do mine." Christine continued.

Bulgarian
Orphanage and Medical Relief Fund. The Kiwanis Club
of Suburban Frederick Fund, one of over 450 funds held by The
Community Foundation of Frederick County, has contributed over
$2,000 to the Bulgarian Orphanage and Medical Relief Fund, Inc.
The gift is part of the Kiwanis Club of Suburban Frederick’s
ongoing international charitable commitment. Imagine
a world where children are shunted away in crumbling orphanages
with too little care and too little to eat. That’s what was
happening until a group of Kiwanians from Hanover, Pennsylvania,
stepped in. Today, the Bulgarian Orphanage and Medical Relief
fund provides vitamins and medicines to 30,000 orphans in
297 orphanages throughout Bulgaria. The result? Deaths have
dropped more than eight percent, saving the lives of thousands
of orphans every year. |

The
Mission of the Frederick County 4H Therapeutic Riding
Program is to provide a recreational experience and
therapeutic regimen to Frederick County citizens with medically
certified mental, physical and emotional disabilities, through
appropriate equestrian activities. |
